Audio Recordings

A selection of U.P. Cherubim and Seraphim audio recordings through the years

Light Sings

This album is a collection of songs by the first generation U.P. Cherubim and Seraphim from the 1970s and gives us an idea of the wide range of songs they cover in a typical concert. Songs in German and French from the Classic European repertoire, a unique Filipino repertoire by composers from the University of the Philippines College of Music (among them, National Artists Lucio San Pedro and Ramon P. Santos) written specifically for the group, and light popular songs from the Commercial Music Industry are at the core of each Concert Offering.

UPCS Folk Songs

In its first decade, challenged by the lack of a repertoire of Filipino music for children, the U.P. Cherubim and Seraphim commissioned arrangements of folk songs from all over the Philippines. A number of these arrangements were published later by the National Music Competitions for Young Artists (NAMCYA) and sung by many other children’s choirs from all over the nation. The album that follows features our early folk song arrangements by composers from the U.P. College of Music including National Artist Lucio San Pedro, who was an enthusiastic supporter of the group and Antonio Regalario, then a young composition student..

Bata ang Bukas

This recording from 2005 represents only a fraction of the songs by Philippine composers from the U.P. Cherubim and Seraphim’s repertoire.

Many of the songs in this album speak of the child’s relationships with nature and the environment and the responsibilities and challenges children face as they grow up in today’s complex world. Because of this, the group chose to record a number of them in the ampitheater of the National Arts Center deep in the mountains of Makiling. Surrounded by nature and open to the elements, the children responded to the trees, the cool air, and the songs of the birds with feeling and musicality.

May you who listen find it a source of hope, a gift of young voices to the nation and to the world.

Diffusa est Gratia

The Diffusa et Gratia concert of the U.P. Cherubim and Seraphim on May 12, 2018 at the Abelardo Hall Auditorium introduced the present group of choristers to the public. It was also the first full length concert of our new Associate Director, Alyssa Liyana Dioquino, whose repertoire choices featured a small string orchestra and a number of instrumental combinations that enriched the children’s interactions with other musical ensembles and groupings.
